Battery pack BMS: CANbus, RS485, I2C, SMBus

The Battery Management System protects the pack and, when the host must read data, talks the protocol the equipment already uses. ENERGIVM designs the BMS with the pack — CANbus, RS-485, I2C or SMBus — from Rubí, for EU industrial equipment.

What a BMS does

The BMS cuts on over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit and out-of-range temperature, and it balances state of charge between cells. On lithium it is not optional: a pack without a BMS is a risk. Protection first; communication only when the host needs it.

When CANbus vs RS485

CANbus is the usual choice when the host is a vehicle, an AGV or an industrial controller that already speaks CAN. RS-485 is common on inverters, rectifiers and site controllers. I2C and SMBus appear on compact electronics. We match the protocol the equipment already uses — we do not invent a new bus for the host.

Integration with the pack

The BMS is specified with the cell configuration, the connector and the thermal envelope, not as a bolt-on after the pack exists. We integrate and assemble the pack in Rubí; we do not manufacture the cell. When the host must read voltage, current or state of charge, the same design pass adds CANbus, RS-485, I2C or SMBus.

How we spec it

Specs first (what the battery powers, load, autonomy, space, connector, temperature), then the protocol the host already uses, then a prototype. We reply within 24 hours. Prototypes take from a few days to two months, depending on the mechanical and electronics work.
