Why 48V LiFePO4 vs VRLA

Forty-eight volts is the usual backup bus on 4G/5G sites. LiFePO4 is the chemistry we use when the pack cycles often and thermal stability matters. VRLA (AGM/GEL) remains a fit when the duty is standby and the installation is already built around lead-acid. Both can be assembled as a custom 48 V pack; the duty cycle decides, not a generic catalogue line.

Runtime and temperature

Runtime comes from the real load and the hours of autonomy the site needs — not a datasheet average. Temperature at the cabinet or shelter is part of the brief: packs are validated in a thermal chamber (−30 to +70 °C) before they leave Rubí. We ask for the load profile and the ambient range before we propose a capacity.

BMS / CANbus / RS485

A lithium 48 V backup pack needs a BMS: it cuts on over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit and out-of-range temperature, and it balances cells. When the rectifier or site controller must read the pack, we add CANbus or RS-485 to the protocol the equipment already uses.

Specs we need

Voltage (typically 48 V), load, hours of autonomy, available space, connector and operating temperature. From that we propose an architecture. We reply within 24 hours. Prototypes take from a few days to two months, depending on the mechanical and electronics work.

LiFePO4 or VRLA for 48V backup?

LiFePO4 when the site cycles often and thermal stability matters — typical LiFePO4 cycle life is on the order of 2,000 to 2,500 versus a few hundred for lead-acid. VRLA (AGM/GEL) when the duty is standby and the site is already specified around lead-acid. The BMS is required on lithium.
